These terms govern your use of Contend (“the Service”), which is run from the United Kingdom by the Contend team (“we,” “us”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these terms.
Contend is a training platform for Christian apologetics. It provides structured lessons (“Learn”) and simulated debates against AI-generated opponents (“Debate”), with automated feedback and scoring. It is a training tool, not a source of theological, legal, historical, or academic authority — see Section 6.
You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. If you’re under 18, you confirm you have a parent or guardian’s permission to use any paid features. You’re responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity under your account.
Contend offers a free tier with limited access to Learn content and no access to Debate, and a paid tier (“Contend Pro”) with full access to Learn and a daily debate allowance. Exact pricing and what’s included at each tier is shown at checkout and may change over time — we’ll never change what you’re being charged for an active subscription without notice.
Pro subscriptions renew automatically (weekly, monthly or annually, whichever you choose) until cancelled. Payment is processed entirely by Stripe — we never see or store your card details. You can cancel anytime from the “Manage subscription” link in the app. Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep access until the end of the period you’ve already paid for. We don’t offer refunds for partial periods — cancelling simply means you won’t be charged again.
You agree not to:
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, or that we reasonably believe are being used to abuse the Service.
Debate opponents and grading feedback are generated by AI (currently Anthropic’s Claude models). We steer this content carefully, but AI systems can occasionally be inaccurate, misattribute a source, or state something incorrectly with confidence. Nothing in Contend — arguments, citations, scores, or feedback — should be treated as authoritative scholarship. Always verify specific facts, quotes, or citations independently before relying on them.
The Service is provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind. We don’t guarantee it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for any particular purpose. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we’re not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 3 months before the claim arose.
We may update these terms as the Service changes. If we make a material change, we’ll make reasonable efforts to let existing users know (e.g. by email). Continuing to use Contend after a change means you accept the updated terms.
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
